Repeat Offender to be Released by Judge Bruce E. Chan.
“(KGO) -- It might be a new year, but San Francisco is dealing with the same old problem: judges giving plea deals to repeat offenders, even over the objection of prosecutors…, you know the name Robert Sonza. He has a long rap sheet of breaking into cars and running from police. But in a hearing Thursday on his latest case, a San Francisco judge plans to give him a deal and release him.” SFDA Brooke Jenkins wanted two years in state prison for Sonza now and calls the plea offer “a failure of the criminal justice system.” Several times, Sonza has received probation for serious felonies, only to reoffend.
Stop Crime SF's Court Watch program has been following the progress of this case, and hundreds more like it. We have done extensive research on the judges of the Superior Court in San Francisco for years, and unfortunately, the Sonza case ruling is no surprise to us.
