Another Asian Elder is Brutally Attacked For No Reason.

27-year-old James Ramsey is being held without bail after allegedly kicking an 88-year-old woman to the sidewalk on Ellis Street. The attack took place on Friday, July 21 and caused the woman to suffer severe injuries. A witness who detained Ramsey until the police came to the scene was also battered by the suspect, reports say. "The crimes that Mr. Ramsey is accused of are horrific,” District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement. "Our elderly Asian community is in fear every day of walking down the street because of situations like this. I am grateful to the witness who was able to detain him until police arrived, ensuring that he did not flee. My office, on behalf of the victims and every San Franciscan who is fed up with brazen violence like this, will stand for justice and seek to hold him accountable for his crimes.”

Mr. Ramsey is reported to have a long criminal history. After allegedly assaulting the head of Oakland’s Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Carl Chan in 2021, his current charges include inflicting injury on an elder likely to cause great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury, and allegation of a crime while out on bail or O.R. He will appear in court again on August 7th in Department 11. The court case number is 23011052.
